Western Prairie Storm - Oil on 11 x 14 Stretched Canvas

NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Western Prairie Storm - Around 1962 and 1963 I traveled a sales territory in western and central Kansas. In the spring the weather was very changeable and sometimes I would see scenes like this. The rain clouds would hang close to the ground, move very fast and actually pick up dust along the way making them almost black in appearance. Sunshine would peek through the clouds and there would be areas of bright light in and around the squalls. I thought the scenes the sky painted were striking and I hope this painting strikes you in that same fashion. Your comments are welcome.

Fall Colors Bouquet - A vase, some bright and warm flowers and you get a nice presentation. I don't normally work in square formats, but this was nice for a change. I also enjoy stretching myself with new challenges be it colors, composition or both. Your comments are welcome

Lavender Vase and Flowers - This my 300th painting posted to the blog. They say, come to think of it who are "they" anyway, that you have to paint around 500 paintings to have mastered what you are doing. Only a couple of hundred more to go; probably a year and a half or so and I'll be there. I normally don't use these colors, but for the 300th I thought I would try them. Your comments are always welcome.

Grain Silos in Moonlight - This painting is reminiscent of the years I lived in Kansas, USA. Many examples of these structures dotted the countryside and even within the city where I resided; Wichita. The silos appeared to be almost majestic in the moonlight. In our California urban areas they are now turning this structure type into upscale living areas; condos and apartments. Your comments are welcome.

Copper Pot With Onions - Another copperware painting and in addition an exercise in perspective; there is a lot going on in this one. Wow, I had fun with this one. There is so much warmth in the tones of copper pots that I've found a new love to paint subject. Your comments are welcome.

If you are posting comments,

recently I've received some comments, and I moderated them, from what I think are translated from another language. The sentence structure I'm getting is so bad that the comment is not understandable. I presume you are using a language translation program.

If you are forwarding comments translated from another language and I do not publish those comments, consider the translation program you are using. If I can't understand them I cannot publish them. In addition, if you are sending movie clip files or any profanity the comments and clips with them will not be published. I hope you understand this blog is for art content comments only, however in addition I do appreciate all the comments received. Thank you

Copper Pot with Oranges - Oil on 9 x 12 Canvas Panel

Copper Pot with Oranges - The warmth of these two items is evident; however attempting to paint that warmth takes some work. Those of you who paint I'm sure can attest to that. This copper pot is part of a set and I no doubt will do some more copper pieces in the future, but for now this one came out very pleasing to me. Your comments are welcome..

Dancer in Red - I've wanted to paint something bold like this for some time. I just could not come up with the subject matter to fit what I wanted to do. This will do as a starter. First, it had to be in warm and red tones. I wanted high contrasts to catch the eye and emphasize the motion within. At first I thought "Tango", but I think I need to work on the initial sketches a while longer to prefect the base drawing. I went with a single figure just for the simplicity of it all. Brown Vase and Oranges - The tones here are warm and set off nicely with the blues in the flower array. The old brown pottery always makes a good painting subject too. Hope you like it. Your comments are welcome.

Sunlight and Shadows - Bright light, color and Shadows on the table and pot as if the light were shining through the flower array. This was real fun to do as it was mostly experimentation. I like the way it came out. Your comments are welcome.

The Red Vase - Groups of flowers or floral arrangements have always been a problem for me to set on canvas. I've made up my mind to do a number of these until I'm happy with the result. I’m really pleased with the outcome of this one. Your comments are welcome.

Light from Above - Presenting a figure under a ceiling light requires a different set of lights and darks to accomplish a realistic look than light from either side requires. I also wanted to accomplish sort of an old world look. Your comments are welcome.

Girl in Light - Oil on 8 x 10 Canvas Panel

No Longer Available

Girl in Light - I haven't painted figures in some time and have missed doing them. Here is a figure study of light from above. I recently, I'm not sure when as someone sent it to me in the past and now I can't find it, saw this picture of a girl putting her top on in wonderful light. It looked like a great potential painting exercise. Your comments are welcome

Old Stoneware Jug - I was rummaging around the garage the other day and ran across this old stoneware jug. I thought it would make a good painting subject. It just needed something else so I added the old standby; fruit.... I also attempted to brighten up the painting compared to some of my recent efforts. Your comments are welcome.

Outer Banks Overcast - I've been busy for the last couple of months actually and when I finished my other projects recently the painting mood didn't strike me very hard. Well, here is something different from me. I found this photo I took many years ago on the outer banks of North Carolina; or it may have been South Carolina, while we were on an east coast holiday. Later that day we stopped at a very nice restaurant on the Cape Fear River in Wilmington, NC and had dinner with our old friend TBone Terry. Terry Jones for those of you who don't know him. Here is a link to a painting I did of him in September of 2007

Pears in Light - I haven't been painting very much lately as I've been busy with other things. For some reason I always come back to still life and usually pears. I have a number of this type of painting that I haven't published as I thought some of them redundant, however this one is a little different and I really like it. It's warmer and brighter than some of the others I've done. Your comments are welcome.
