Tulip Tree Floral – Oil on 12 x 12 Canvas Panel – I haven’t had much painting motivation as of late, however as we are getting more into spring here in California I noticed a Tulip Tree just down the street the other day. The blossoms are very large, maybe six or so inches in diameter and are very colorful almost overpowering the tree itself. I didn’t take any pictures so just started putting color on canvas to see how it came out. I think it came out OK. Your comments are welcome.

Night Floral - Light and shadows create the drama of this 8 x 10. The petals catch the light, create shadows to add to the three dimensional appearance as do the one flower within the depth of field and two beyond. Your comments are welcome.

Yellow Pansy - Oil on 11 x14 Canvas Panel

No Longer Available

Yellow Pansy - The light from above and behind creates shadows on the satin background and illuminates the delicate flowers to create real contrast. This reminiscent of something old fashioned, but then I'm old fashioned so I guess it fits. To me, it's pleasing to the eye. Your comments are welcome.

Spotlight, Apples and Flowers - Oil on 9 x 12 Canvas Panel

NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Spotlight, Apples and Flowers - An exercise in bright light from the left. I love the lights and darks of this painting. Some people would call it moody; others, who knows?????. Your comments are welcome.

Green Glass Vase - When I was a child at home in Minnesota we had several of these planters or vases in our living room. They would house different flower arrays at different times of the growing season. Spring time was very much like this. Your comments are welcome.

Fall Colors Bouquet - Oil on 8 x 8 Canvas Panel

NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Fall Colors Bouquet - A vase, some bright and warm flowers and you get a nice presentation. I don't normally work in square formats, but this was nice for a change. I also enjoy stretching myself with new challenges be it colors, composition or both. Your comments are welcome

Lavender Vase and Flowers - This my 300th painting posted to the blog. They say, come to think of it who are "they" anyway, that you have to paint around 500 paintings to have mastered what you are doing. Only a couple of hundred more to go; probably a year and a half or so and I'll be there. I normally don't use these colors, but for the 300th I thought I would try them. Your comments are always welcome.

Brown Vase and Oranges - The tones here are warm and set off nicely with the blues in the flower array. The old brown pottery always makes a good painting subject too. Hope you like it. Your comments are welcome.

Sunlight and Shadows - Bright light, color and Shadows on the table and pot as if the light were shining through the flower array. This was real fun to do as it was mostly experimentation. I like the way it came out. Your comments are welcome.

Light from Above No.2 - I did this subject again just to lighten it up a bit. I thought she needed to look softer and warmer than the first one. Your comments are welcome.

The Red Vase - Groups of flowers or floral arrangements have always been a problem for me to set on canvas. I've made up my mind to do a number of these until I'm happy with the result. I’m really pleased with the outcome of this one. Your comments are welcome.

Red Clay Pot - This is the second old pot I've painted. They really have a lot of warmth and character in turn making them great painting subjects. I'm going to try some more in the future. Your comments are welcome.

Pansy No. 1 - Watercolor on 9 x 12 140Lb CP Paper

Not for Sale

Pansy No. 1 - I've tried a new process here, lots more water and heavy doses of pigment. Although I'm not happy with the results, I do like the new process as I can see real potential in it once I gain command of it. It will take some time, but challenges are why I do this so it plays right into my hands. The first thing I noticed is that I should switch from 140 to 300LB paper as it will hold the water better. An upgrade in my paint tubes is also necessary if I expect to do end up with an exceptional end product. Your comments are welcome.
