Near Carmel 2016 - Oil on 16 x 20 stretched canvas.

As you may have noticed, I haven't posted any work since last year. I've painted several, just haven't been happy with any of them until this one..  I've got to get back into it..!!

Near Carmel 2016 - The Carmel, Ca area was at one time a beautiful and unspoiled area. It has changed throughout the years in to a busy, heavy traffic laden coastline area. There are still some relatively unspoiled areas such as this. If you go there and look you will find them. Hope you enjoy this oil.

Outside Long Beach Harbor - Oil on 16 X 20 Stretched Canvas

Outside Long Beach Harbor - In April of this year we left Long Beach, CA harbor on a cruise ship headed for Mexico. Just outside the harbor I spotted a couple of container ships and snapped a picture thinking it would make a nice oil painting.. Finally finished it. So here it is..

My First Tall ship - Oil on 16 x 20 Stretched canvas.

My second painting since breaking that old painting block I suffered from for the past year or more. It was still wet when I took the photo so the up close picture of the front rock outcropping looks a little discolored, but not much. I didn't want use Photoshop and just wanted to get it posted. I have another one planned, but need a break for a few days first.  So here you are

Evening Water - Oil on 11 x 14 Canvas Panel - I've had this one on the back burner for some time now. So, today overcast and raining, I decided to paint it. I've attmpted to show a generally warm painting yet maintain the mystery of dark water. I hope I've achieved it. Your comments are welcome.

The Gondola - I guess by now you've noticed that I like to paint boats plus a little water. I, if you haven't, noticed that my technique or way I approach the canvas has changed of late, or I should say is changing with every new painting. I don't know how to or can't explain why, it just is. I'm not sure that I'm OK with the change, however I'm getting good results and feedback of late so I guess I'll just keep on letting it flow and see what happens. Your comments are welcome.

At the Sea – Another painting from a photo I took in I think Hawaii. We haven’t been there in ten or so years as there are many other places in the world to experience so we haven’t yet returned to Hawaii. The boat was beached and looked abandoned and if you’ve noticed, I’ve been doing some boat paintings lately so when I ran across this old picture it was just a natural thing to paint it. Past Prime - It appears that of late I've had and interest in painting water scenes with moody or more thought provoking images. At least I they provoke thought within me which I find important at this time. Possibly, subconsciously I'm moving on to a new painting process as I noticed I'm doing somethings differently, who knows???

Sea Palms - I've vacationed in places like this on several occasions. I woke up this morning with this one on my mind. In addition, I haven't used a knife to paint with in some time so it was a nice changeup for me. Your comments are welcome.

Rocks and Surf - Mountains in the distance, a raging surf and water washing over rocks on the shoreline. It all makes for good subject matter to a painter. Your comments are welcome.

Waves on Rocky Shore - The more I paint water, the more I want to paint it. It is a real challenge to make it look alive. I worked on this one until I could almost hear the crashing sounds of the waves against the rocks. Only you painters will probably understand that. Your comments are welcome.

Wind and Surf - An exercise in the creation of movement on a two dimensional surface. It's not as easy as one would think.Watch the wind blow the mist off the whitecaps. Lately I seem to be mesmerized by the sea as far as painting exercises are concerned. This little 8 x 10 was more fun than anything I've done in a long time. Your comments are welcome.

Lighthouse Point - Oil on 9 x 12 Canvas Panel

NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Lighthouse Point - The morning mist or fog is in process of burning off, but still it obscures the clear view of the lighthouse. If you look closely you can see the sun has warmed up the image of the lighthouse. The surf keeps rolling in getting more intense in values as the waves get closer. I love the mood of this painting, but I've got to say thanks to Roy Lang (oil painter) from England whose book on painting the sea has benefited me greatly in painting scenes such as these. I emailed him the other day and sent him a (.jpg image) of one of my unpublished seascapes. He was kind enough to email me back and offer me some good advice on painting the sea. Thanks Roy. I took the idea of this lighthouse from a photo I took years ago, I'm not sure where it was, and combined it with waves and a shoreline similar to one in Roy's book. It really made a nice combination. Your comments are welcome.

Crappie Fishing - I painted this one from a childhood memory. We lived in Minnesota and often went to a nearby lake to fish for Crappie, a fish native to that area. The whole family would take food, drinks and we would make a day of it. That lake was shallow, large and the wind would blow across it creating waves and whitecaps. At that time there was no limit on the number of Crappie you could take so we would just keep fishing until our container was full. At the end of the day we would come home with a washtub full of fish; then came the work of cleaning them. Of course after that we would invite some neighbors and have a fish fry; wonderful memories. Your comments are welcome.

My Vacation - There is a place in the Virgin Islands, actually it’s a national park. The water is luminous and aqua in color. It rolls up on almost white sandy beaches. There is nothing like it, or at least I've never seen anything else like it. Your comments are welcome.
