Near Carmel 2016 - Oil on 16 x 20 stretched canvas.

As you may have noticed, I haven't posted any work since last year. I've painted several, just haven't been happy with any of them until this one..  I've got to get back into it..!!

Near Carmel 2016 - The Carmel, Ca area was at one time a beautiful and unspoiled area. It has changed throughout the years in to a busy, heavy traffic laden coastline area. There are still some relatively unspoiled areas such as this. If you go there and look you will find them. Hope you enjoy this oil.

My second painting since breaking that old painting block I suffered from for the past year or more. It was still wet when I took the photo so the up close picture of the front rock outcropping looks a little discolored, but not much. I didn't want use Photoshop and just wanted to get it posted. I have another one planned, but need a break for a few days first.  So here you are

Shamrock Lake, MN - Oil on 9 x 12 Canvas Panel

This month's Artist Daily Facebook Painting of the Month caught my eye immediately when I was looking through the posts on the Member's Gallery. The water in Shamrock Lake, MN, is as smooth as glass, and water itself seems to be half cloud or mist and half water. I especially love that the artist, Russell Baker, got so atmospheric and bold with the color in the sky and, therefore, the reflections on the surface of the lake. Shamrock Lake, MN - Looking back to my childhood in northern Minnesota, specifically the Grand Rapids area, I have fond memories of Shamrock Lake. There are three lakes interconnected by narrow waterways in the chain, Shamrock, Oreilly and Island Lake. At that time I believe all the shoreline on Shamrock Lake was privately owned and may still be. My cousins and their family owned a lot of that shoreline and summers we all would swim in front of their home. Some of us would swim out to a submerged sandbar out in the middle of the lake and then back. I fished there more times than I can remember. In winter the lake would freeze over and we would ice skate and dark house fish directly in front of the house. It was and still is a beautiful setting and is still in the family. When the lake was still the reflections were unbelievable. I painted this one from memory as it's been a good number of years since I've seen it. Your comments are welcome.

The Surf by Moonlight - One of the joys of exotic south seas vacation spots is sitting on the deck with one of those drinks in a coconut shell and watching the sea glisten in the moonlight. The moonlight reflects off the surf and cloud formations. The light bounces off the water and creates images such as this one. Your comments are welcome.

The Boat Race - I've taken a week or more off from painting due to being under the weather and am feeling better now. We like to travel to friendly exotic places and don't get a chance to do it often enough, one reason being the current economy and the other now being on a fixed income. I don't remember where we were, however I think it was on Maui some years ago when this scene popped up in my camera and I snapped it. I've always liked the look of it and today did something about it. The balmy air and blue skies are typical of what I saw that day and still remember. Your comments are welcome.

To Juno - A couple of years ago we were aboard the cruise ship Oosterdam approaching Juno, Alaska. I was in the Explorer's lounge high above the waterline and snapped this picture while it was raining. If you can imagine going deep into the picture as far as the water goes, that is where the ship turned left and Juno harbor was in sight. I've tried to represent the majestic beauty of Alaska here; however it is very hard to do it justice. If you have ever been there you will understand. This was painted using Ultramarine Blue and Ivory black. Your comments are welcome

Tropic Vacation - This is reminiscent of Mexico, Hawaii or many other places in the tropics. We've been there many times and are looking forward to our next visit. If you look close at the magnified view you can make out the silhouette someone relaxing on a lounge chair. Gooseberry Falls –If you have never been up the Lake Superior north shore in Minnesota you should do it once in your lifetime. I was lucky enough to do it many times as a child and remember it vividly to this day. It’s now been about 50 years since I had the opportunity to stop and climb down the rocks near Gooseberry Falls, although I’ve been past it in recent years. So if I may present a painting strictly from memory of that day some 50 years ago here is Gooseberry Falls, MN.
