Pansy No. 1 - Watercolor on 9 x 12 140Lb CP Paper

Not for Sale

Pansy No. 1 - I've tried a new process here, lots more water and heavy doses of pigment. Although I'm not happy with the results, I do like the new process as I can see real potential in it once I gain command of it. It will take some time, but challenges are why I do this so it plays right into my hands. The first thing I noticed is that I should switch from 140 to 300LB paper as it will hold the water better. An upgrade in my paint tubes is also necessary if I expect to do end up with an exceptional end product. Your comments are welcome.

Bright Flowers - I'm going to paint more of this subject matter in the future as they look so bright and happy. I guess it's the positive feeling I get by doing it. Your comments are welcome.

Old Red Barn – My uncle Vic, born in 1900, had an old red barn on his farm in Goodland, MN many years ago. My memories of that barn are of approximately 45+ years ago. It looked very weathered at the time. It housed his animals, their feed and his "old Whiskey still". Next to the barn was a hedgerow of plum trees. He would mix the plums, sugar and other things to make a wine like mixture to be distilled into what he lovingly called "Plum Whisky". It was tapped it off at about 140 proof and would really sneak up on you. He also made wine, tanned leather and did all the other things associated with people of that genre and generation. For those of you who have read my Bio, Vic was one of Charles X. Carlson’s older brothers. The barn looked something like this painting. Your comments are welcome.

To Juno - A couple of years ago we were aboard the cruise ship Oosterdam approaching Juno, Alaska. I was in the Explorer's lounge high above the waterline and snapped this picture while it was raining. If you can imagine going deep into the picture as far as the water goes, that is where the ship turned left and Juno harbor was in sight. I've tried to represent the majestic beauty of Alaska here; however it is very hard to do it justice. If you have ever been there you will understand. This was painted using Ultramarine Blue and Ivory black. Your comments are welcome

Tropic Vacation - This is reminiscent of Mexico, Hawaii or many other places in the tropics. We've been there many times and are looking forward to our next visit. If you look close at the magnified view you can make out the silhouette someone relaxing on a lounge chair. For those of you in the north, ie, Minnesota and Etc., where the winters are long I hope looking at this painting warms you up. Your comments are welcome.

Country Stroll - Watercolor on 9 x 12 140Lb CP Paper
