Poodle in Light - Rex was the poodle's name and his owner was an attorney and friend I knew some 35 years ago in Wichita, Kansas. I found an old picture of them both just yesterday. I think they both must be long gone by now. Rex seemed always vigilant, alert and never seemed to let his guard down. I thought that was unusual for a full sized poodle. Your comments are welcome.

Longhaired Dachshund – You will see this Dauxie frequently at our local coffee shop in Sacramento. Although I’ve never spoken to the people that bring her, I don’t think they would mind my using her for a model for this 8 x 10 Oil. In the past I’ve tried painting a couple of Dachshunds. Marvin No. 2 – I saw Marvin, an elderly Chow, at the coffee shop once again on Thursday. He suffers from arthritis and his owner said his eye site is also getting poor. I decided it was time paint another Chow. These dogs have the most expressive faces and because of that, they make great painting subjects. The second picture is a detail of Marvin’s eye. Coco – Coco was a Mini Poodle that 45 or more years ago belonged to my good friend Larry L. Larry, was the uncontested world champion at his profession for about 4 years. He did TV and personal appearances all over the USA and other parts of the world. Over several years he and I had two partnerships and even worked some state fairs together. What fun! Coco is long gone now and I just recently heard that Larry has also left us. Your comments are welcome.

Tibetan Spaniel – These Dogs were highly prized in ancient Tibet, and were often given as gifts to royal houses. Depictions of dogs similar to the Tibetan Spaniels have been found on Chinese bronzes from as early as 1100 BC. I personally just think they’re cute! Your comments are welcome.

Marvin the Chow – One of the oldest true breeds known to man were hunters in China as early as 150 BC. Marvin is an old Chow and now these days he mostly hunts a good place to take a nap. His personality warm and friendly and he is always at his owner’s sides when they come to our local coffee shop. Esther's Friend – I just love doing these small dogs. They have such expressive faces and great personalities, however white ones are hard to do. Just to show expression, dimension, perspective and depth within a white furry face requires a lot of subtle tone changes.
