The Toucan - Oil on 8 x 10 Canvas Panel
SOLD 2/01/2008
The Toucan – I’ve decided to do several of these over time, as there are several different varieties. I like the bright colors and the high contrasts. I purposely blurred the background so the sharp foreground would really stand out, much like taking a picture with a good camera and using a limited depth of field lens setting to amplify interest in the main subject of the photo. The Toucan.
As a student in northern Minnesota I enjoyed being an artist. My uncle Charles: C. X. Carlson, a noted author, artist and muralist was a great influence me.
I sketched and painted everyday until age sixteen or so, then it seemed as though life took over. Since then I've lived in Kansas, Texas and presently in California. Now, 50+ years later and retired, I have returned to the more pleasurable pastimes of my youth.
This year, 2007, I started drawing, painting and playing music once again. It will be interesting to see where these endeavors guide me and how my skills in turn develop over time. Everything I offer here is an original. Some may be renditions of other works I find interesting, however originals just the same.
