Old Prairie Chapel in Winter - This is the second painting of an abandoned very old western prairie chapel I've done. This time I decided to put a storm front behind it, but still create it in mostly warm tones. In addition I wanted to show the sunlight on the structure and the shadows it dictates. Old Prairie Chapel - I love these sunset lit paintings and I painted this one to show just that. The original picture I painted it from was taken in the 1960s and developed in my home darkroom in the 1970s (way before digital cameras) when I ran across the negatives after moving to California. I have thousands of these old pictures as I was an amateur photographer in those days. I like the warmth and lonely setting in this one. Your comments are welcome.

Eastern Colorado Western Kansas - I don't know exactly where this is as I painted it from a picture I took either in the 1960s or 1970s. In those days I didn't make notations on the backs of my photographs; but it was somewhere out there in eastern Colorado or far western Kansas. It's easier to notate now with the cameras being digital and the accompanying software that allows notation. This is a commonplace scene of the area and to me makes a beautiful painting subject. The western sky usually presents world class scenes to make you lose yourself in their recreating on canvas. Your comments are welcome.

Kansas Evening Rainstorm - After living in central Kansas for many years and now having been away for thirty five plus years I can still remember the colorful and vividly active rainstorms that pass very fast in front of color laden scenes. The western Kansas countryside is dotted with old grain elevators much like this one, so to me they are natural combinations for a painting. Your comments are welcome.

Fireside Pot Maker - In my mind I could see the flickering open fire reflecting color off the potters mud covered wet slicked hands as he / or she formed the pot from wet clay. The fire only provides minimum light, but still there is enough to produce vivid color and in turn strong emotion. I really like the way this one came out and plan another similar one in the future. Mississippi Creek - I took this picture and about thirty others similar to it more than twenty years ago while visiting my childhood home in northern Minnesota, USA. This creek is a tributary to the Mississippi River near Grand Rapids, MN. As a child I spent my free time hunting and fishing in and amongst scenes just like this one; wonderful memories. In those years almost everyone I knew lived either on or near the water, either lakes or the river; the Mississippi. Being around water was a way of life for me at that time. This particular scene is unusual due to the fact that it lacks some of the numerous evergreen trees that populate northern MN. I guess that's why I wanted to paint it today as it just struck me as different from most of the rest of the pictures from that trip. Your comments are welcome.

Native American Potter - It's all about the light and the warmth. I'm going to do a larger canvas of this painting or something very similar for our home in the near future. Very simple and uncomplicated. Your comments are welcome.

Buffalo Frost - Oil on 11 x 14 Canvas Panel

NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Buffalo Frost - I deliberated some time on just what to call this piece. I've seen and taken pictures of scenes just like this many times when I traveled just to make a living. This is typical of the prairies of the Dakotas, Wyoming, Nebraska and Kansas. The ground is frozen, it’s snowing, yet the sun is peeking out just enough to slightly warm the scene. It's so cold that the morning frost has frozen on the buffalo's coat in places. They snort steam from their nostrils and try to feed on what frozen prairie grass remains. Somehow they survive. Your comments are welcome.
