California Wild flowers - The coast range, the foot hills of the Sierra Nevada and the mountains to the north of the Las Angeles area in the springtime are laden with millions of small wild flowers. They populate the hillsides and sway with breezes that seem to lumber across the terrain. The ultimate result is a thick and smooth carpet effect of almost neon colors in constant flux. The colors change in intensity and shape as the reflected flowers change in direction with the wind. I've traveled extensively in the United States and most of Canada for many years and I don't recall ever seeing this phenomenon outside of California. It's too bad because it's stunning.
