My Old Epiphone - I bought it in the 1960s and it was stolen from me in 1976 while I lived in the Dallas, TX area. I still miss it. I got thinking about it recently and decided it's memory would make a good painting subject so, here it is. My Old Epiphone. Your comments are welcome.

Backlit Pears - Another experimentation in lighting. The light here originates from the left and behind. I had to darken the background three times to arrive at a balance of values I was satisfied with. Your comments are welcome.

Three Pears - Oil on 9 x 12 Canvas Panel

No longer available 5/21/2009

Three Pears - Earlier this month (May 3rd) I painted "Pair of Pears" and really liked the way it finished out. Since then I've heard from an old friend whom I've known since grade school, about 57 to 58 years ago at a place called Warba, MN. population somewhere around 300. During those years I lived on a farm outside of an even smaller community named Blackberry, MN. When we moved on to our Jr. High years in Grandrapids, MN; population around six to seven thousand at that time, it was like being in a metropolis. Now, getting to the point, my childhood friend loved "Pair of Pears" and after thinking it over I decided to paint something similar to that painting. There are some subtle differences in the two however; the most noticeable of which is the dominant color in this one is green, much cooler than the reddish umber mixture I used on 'Pair of Pears. If you compare the two paintings you will see it. I also liked the way this one came out. Your comments are welcome.

Peach Schnapps - It's great stuff if used sparingly. My uncle Charles used to make his own schnapps, but I'm not sure how. I visited him in Pennsylvania about twenty years ago and well remember our sampling of his special home made schnapps that day. We did some other nice things also, but mostly we caught up on family and many missed years. That day remains a very fond memory. Your comments are welcome.

Row of Oranges - Since I'm home today sitting with my foot elevated after a minor surgery I thought I'd paint some oranges again. I love doing them as they are so rich in color and hues. The blue pitcher and bowl contrast the warm tones well and together with the oranges make a nice balanced composition. Your comments are welcome.

By Candle Light - This painting had some real challenges within. I wanted the whole thing to look dark with the candle supplying the only light to the background and the painting subjects. In contrast I had to make it bright enough to make the presentation look natural and in proper perspective. I like the way it finished out. Your comments are welcome.

Coffee Pot and Pears - I wondered how cool toned objects; coffee pot and cup would look among warm tones that make up the balance of the painting. I initially thought this combination could be disastrous, but tried it anyway because I was curious. I discovered this group works very well and the warm and cool tones complement each other well. A Pair of Pears - Oil on 9 x 12 Canvas Panel

NO LONGER AVAILABLE

A Pair of Pears - I see a lot of pear paintings on the net and like most of them. Personally I prefer them to appear soothing, subtle and yet magnetic to the eyes. I don't know if I have achieved that here; however I like it as it is. Your comments are welcome.
