This is another first for me, as I’d never painted a nude. I’ve found that understated changes can create major differences when you stand back and take a look. It was a real learning experience. I’ll do more in the future.
Sometimes I just take a nap instead of painting... All reproduction rights are retained by Russell E. Baker; the Artist

The Red Cala Lilly is my 3rd flower painting. Even though I'd never thought of painting flowers until recently I find myself enjoying the process. Lois complains that I get too far into it and don't relax and she is no doubt on point, but I find these extremely rewarding when completed.
The second flower I've ever done! As I find Cala Lillies fun to do I'm going to do more in the future, different sizes, styles, and Etc. Hopefully they will get better and better as I progress..
It was the late 1950s in the Grand Rapids Minnesota area. I used to go fishing quit a bit with my good friend Al Thissen from LaPrairie, who has since passed away. We would be at the lake and on the water before dawn. There were mornings that were cold and crisp. When the sun started coming up the mist would rise off the water. It was silent except for the occasional fish-jumping, loon calling out and waives, if any, splashing gently on the shoreline. Sometimes the smell of someone brewing coffee on shore would come across the lake. What a great way to spend your youth. These are memories of that time and place and this painting is what I picture in my mind from those memories.
When I first moved to California, about 31 years ago, I had occasion to visit the Big Sur area and had lunch at an open air resturaunt with this view. I've never forgotten it and since have been back several times. I've taken pictures of the view, but today I am in a black and white mood. So here you are "Big Sur to the south" in black and white.
